Circulation Services

Many of the Library's services culminate in the demand for documents. The efficient delivery of documents to patrons is a fundamental service of the Library and probably the most widely used one. The Library delivers documents through its Circulation Services.

Circulation services are available to all members of the Library. All ICRISAT's regular staff, staff on contract, trainees, consultants and visiting scientists are eligible to borrow books and other publications held by the Library. However, non-professional staff may borrow only popular magazines and recreational materials while professional staff may borrow all categories of publications.

While trainees are eligible to borrow all categories of publications, a letter of authorization from program leader to which they are attached is required before loan privileges are given to them.

Staff members of other CG Centers located at ICRISAT Center are eligible to borrow all categories of publications.

Library patrons need a bar-coded ID so as to borrow documents.

Privileges of Borrowers

All registered members are issued a maximum of 10 documents

•  Duration of the loan depends upon the kind of material checked out. The following rules will apply:

•  Current periodicals and new books on display are permitted to be borrowed on overnight loan. These documents may be borrowed after 1600 hours from Monday to Friday and returned at 0800 hours on the next working day.

•  Books and other monographic materials may be borrowed for a period of one month.

•  Back numbers of unbound periodicals may be borrowed for 2 days.

•  Reference books, bound volumes of periodicals, theses, and other materials which are designated as Reference material may be issued to patrons only at the discretion of the Librarian.

Responsibilities of Borrowers

a. Borrowers are responsible for the safekeeping of borrowed documents.

b. Books and other documents which they have been on loan for a reasonable period of time with a given patron can be recalled by the Librarian in case there is request for the same document by another patron. Patron must respond as soon as possible to the call for return of books required by other users.

c. Books and other documents borrowed must be returned on or before the due date stamped on the due-date slip placed in documents. The loan may be renewed for a similar period of time by physically bringing the document so that the fact of renewal may be recorded on the due-date slip.

d. The cost of books lost by borrowers must be paid for by the borrower together with an additional charge of 15 percent of the cost of the book to cover the handling charges.

e. The Librarian may partly or fully terminate the loan privileges of a borrower for habitual default in returning documents or when the member deliberately misuses the library facilities.
