SpringerLink's Online First

ICRISAT Library as a member of the Library and Information Services Consortium (CG-LISC) has paid subscriptions to the SpringerLink and got access to 53 online e-journals (Table 1). All ICRISAT users including those working for our African locations can have access to these journals using their computers with Internet access.

SpringerLink is one of the world's leading interactive databases for full-text archive for journals and books. It provides Online First Service as one of the components of the e-journals. This service lets users access to peer reviewed, and edited articles to the journal's usual standards well before print publication, significantly reducing the time it takes for critical discoveries to reach the research community. Some time in the future they will be published in the paper journal.

How to cite Online First and print articles

Online First articles are identified by a unique number-the Digital Object Identifier (DOI). The DOI will appear in every version of an article. In the Online First version it will appear at the top of the PDF together with the publication date. For instance, if you wish to cite an article from Online First from 'Euphytica', the citation format should be as:

Santos, C.A.F. and Philipp W. Simon, P.W. 2006. Heritabilities and minimum gene number estimates of carrot carotenoids. Euphytica DOI: 10.1007/s10681-006-9130-7 (Published online on 7 September 2006).

Once the article has been printed the citation should also include the traditional year, volume, and page numbers, as well as the DOI and original date of publication.
